The episode happens in the earths of Spain where the war is among the emperor Charles Magno with its Paladins of France at a part and The King Marsilio of Spain with its Saracens from the other one. This war last from seven years. Almost all the Spanish cities are fallen under the dominion of the emperor Charles Magno that it has as the army´s commander the famous count Roland, first paladin of France.

The King Marsilio, seeing next its end, pretends to surrender to Charles Magno and contemporarily to accept the Baptism in the valley of Roncisvalle to opera of the archbishop Turpino. But everything this is only a stratagem to put away French from Spain: in fact with the help of the traitorous Gano of Magonza, curtains an awful ambush to the Christians in the valley of Roncisvalle. The battle is merciless and all the Paladins fall in the deadly trap without escape. Roland kills King Marsilio´s people, and at the end, remained alone it plays for a long time the famous his olifante, it coughs violently and it upsets blood from the mouth and it dies assisted by St. Michael Arcangelo that its soul brings to the presence of God.
