The theater of the Sicilian puppets
declared by the UNESCO
Masterpiece of the immaterial patrimony of the humanity

The work of the Sicilian puppets has gotten today, together to other eighteen forms of expression and cultural spaces the title of "Masterpiece of the Oral and immaterial Patrimony of the humanity" attributed by the UNESCO.
The proclamation of the Masterpieces of the Oral and Immaterial Patrimony of the humanity happens for the first time and comes at the end of the reunion, of an international jury of eighteen members presided by the writer Spanish Juan Goytisolo, lasted three days.
The Manager of the UNESCO Koìchiro Matsuura has underlined that that of today is the first footstep of brief term´s action. Another complementary and parallel action will be developed for a long term´s : the project of a normative technique that completes the Convention on the 1972 World´s Cultural and Natural Patrimony.
At the news of the proclamation the President of the Italian Committee Nazionale for the UNESCO, senator Tullia Carettoni Romagnoli has expressed her appreciation for the work of the UNESCO in this course and she has underlined as, "in epoch of globalization the recognition of the spaces and the forms of immaterial cultural expression strengthens the action of the UNESCO for the recovery and the safeguard of those forms of culture that permeate the life of the people maintaining the uses of it. It deals with a provident vision that exalts and it underlines the role of the single communities."
